FAUNA
The protected area of the Kotychi-Strofilia wetlands is an important wildlife refuge. Two hundred and sixty three species of birds, 23 species of mammals, 26 species of reptiles and eight species of amphibians live and breed here. Many bird species choose this ecosystem as a stopover on their migratory journey.
The lucky visitor might hear the howl of golden jackals, or come across the place where loggerhead sea turtles, a.k.a. Caretta caretta, have laid their eggs, or be captivated by the colors and calls of extremely rare birds that fly alone or in large flocks.
