BLACK
MOUNTAINS

Imposing masses of rock that loom above the Prokopos Lagoon, the Black Mountains of Achaia reach a maximum height of 240 meters. According to legend, they got their name from the sallying forth of the lords of the seas, who lived in a cave in the mountains. In fact, they owe their name to the vegetation. Here, you’ll find mainly oak trees, shrubs and low scrub. A unique, and extremely rare, species of flora endemic to here is the flower Centaurea niederi.
