Ramsar & Natura 2000

The National Park of Kotyhi Strofylia Wetlands is rich in fauna; they are a refuge for many wild animals, including birds in particular, as they functions as a stopover for migratory birds. This is an ecosystem of maximum ecological value in which you can find 263 bird species, 57 other animal species and 24 different types of habitats. As a wetland of international importance, the area is protected by national, European and international legislation, as well as by the Ramsar Convention (1971), and has been included in the Natura 2000 network, the European Network of Protected Areas.
